Production Notes
The Gendarme (pronounced /dʒɛnˈdɑrm/ or /ˈʒɑndɑrm/) is a prototype model for the planned HF-52 series of humanoid fighters. The name literally means "man at arms" in French, and was originally given to elite French cavalrymen from the late 15th to the 18th centuries. The Gendarme lived up to that name, outperforming contemporary terrorwalks.
The Gendarme's design vaguely follows its planned resemblance to a knight (hence the name). It's humanoid frame is typical to that of HFs except for the cockpit area, which very much resembles the nose of an aircraft. The entire unit is powered by a high-output, ultracompact, Glasgow Mechanics Mk. III hydrogen powerplant, with subgenerators in the legs.
The wing-like plasma thrusters, the Gendarme's defining feature in its default configuration, allows great speed and maneuverability. The backpack, a heavily armored LH2 fuel tank, has a set of thrusters of variable output. Such were used whenever the wings, which are actually its main thrusters, are heavily damaged or impaired.
In addition, the Gendarme can skim the ground with a hoverjet system built into its legs, thus reducing friction and increasing mobility.
The unit is protected by a strong, lightweight, titanium-ceramic composite armor. The armor is further reinforced by an outer layer of cercronite, the same material used in heliadonian terrorwalks.
Eight Gendarmes were assigned to handpicked pilots from the North American Refugee Force in Europe (NARFE). These pilots formed the 1st Foreign Experimental Squadron, also known as the War Cats, which significantly halted Heliadonian advance in Western Europe.

At long last, I've had the Gendarme ( [link] ) remade. Upgraded the whole thing based on suggestions from fellow Deviants. Changed a lot of things as I drew it from scratch and retained only the most notable features. I so hope I did not repeat the same mistakes though.
